Business Manager (SFCC) – Definition
Business Manager is the administrative interface of Salesforce Commerce Cloud, where merchants manage catalogs, sites, promotions, and configurations.
Business Manager holds all the operational settings of an SFCC instance: product catalogs, price books, promotions, campaigns, site configurations, and access rights. For content management, it provides Page Designer and content slots. It's the central administration interface, but without a complementary CMS, it can become a bottleneck for teams with heavy content demands. The bottleneck typically shows up in two specific ways: Business Manager's interface is built for administrative configuration rather than the fast, iterative work of drafting and previewing marketing content, so non-technical marketing users often find it slower than a dedicated content editing interface. Second, Business Manager access is generally granted at a fairly broad, technical level — a marketer who needs to edit campaign content often ends up with access to catalog and pricing settings they don't need, which creates unnecessary risk. Teams that layer a specialized CMS on top of SFCC typically keep Business Manager for its intended purpose while giving content teams a purpose-built, narrowly scoped interface.
