Modul-System (CMS) – Definition
A CMS module system provides prebuilt, reusable content building blocks that marketing teams can assemble into pages and campaigns without developer involvement.
Modules define the structure and presentation of a specific content type — for example, a hero banner, a product grid, or a text block. Unlike raw content slots, modules combine a clearly defined visual presentation with configurable content fields. Marketing teams can arrange, combine, and configure modules without building the presentation layer themselves. This enables page flexibility within a controlled, brand-compliant framework. The quality of a module system depends heavily on how comprehensive its component library is relative to what marketing actually needs to build — a system with only a handful of basic module types forces the same workarounds as content slots once a genuinely new layout is required, while an overly large, poorly organized library becomes hard for editors to navigate efficiently. Well-designed module systems strike a balance by offering enough building blocks to cover the vast majority of real campaign needs while keeping each module's configuration simple enough that a non-technical editor can use it correctly without training.
