Platform Migration (SFCC) – Definition
The process of moving a Salesforce Commerce Cloud storefront from one architecture to another — for example, from Site Genesis to SFRA, or from SFRA to a PWA Kit storefront.
Platform migrations are most often planned as purely technical projects, but content coupled to old templates can become the biggest hidden time sink. A CMS decoupled from the storefront codebase lets content, approval workflows, and translations carry over unchanged. Underestimating the content dimension of a migration is a common planning mistake: a team that budgets accurately for backend replatforming work but assumes content will simply 'come along' often discovers, mid-project, that years of content are tightly embedded in the old template structure and need manual, page-by-page rework — turning what looked like a technical timeline into a much longer combined technical-and-content effort.
